Gospel diva Yolanda Adams believes that gospel music lyrics should appeal to everyone, and while her pop and worldly gospel song lyrics might not always appeal to a sanctimonious minority, it sure does to most folks!
Yolanda worked as a school teacher in the mid eighties and did some modeling work before she finally decided to concentrate on music. Her debut album, Just as I Am, appeared in 1988.
While her style was initially disapproved by the Christian community, the emergence of popular gospel lyrics in the 90's vaulted Yolanda into the forefront of mainstream popular gospel.
She later went on tour with Kirk Franklin & the Family and released the album Yolanda Live in Washington which was nominated for a Grammy award.
She then made Songs from the Heart, and then followed it up with Mountain High Valley Low which did win a Grammy award.
In 2000, Yolanda came up with a Christmas album entitled Yolanda Adams Christmas.
Her live CD The Experience came next and was well received.
Honored with a variety of awards, including 2000's Grammy award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album, five Stellar Awards, two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, and five NAACP Image Awards, her new album, Believe, is the product of her intense song writing and collaboration with top record producers and promises to raise the bar in popular gospel song lyrics once more.
The tracks in the album include Never Give Up, I Gotta Believe, Fo' Sho, and A Song of Faith among others.
