Freestyle Rap Lyrics
Freestyle Rap Lyrics came and the English language was never the same again!
Yo peeps! So rap is yo thang eh?
Although some people still shrug and insist that rap song lyrics (freestyle rap battle lyrics) are a fad, this is hardly believable now that rap
has been around the US for over 20 years!
And with artists like Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs, Eminem and Missy Ellliot topping the charts with their fascinating beat and music lyrics,
it is evident that rap is not only here to stay but has in fact evolved into a musical art form.
Rap has its origins in that oh so magical place called the Bronx (NY) and is attributed to the poor black neighborhoods there.
And as all things, rap is the product of an evolution that started with Hip Hop (1960's), the rise in popularity of graffiti writing (1960's and 1970's)
and the influence of Jamaican music, in particular, the art of 'toasting'.
The book Cut 'N' Mix mentions that Jamaican 'toasting' is when Jamaican disc jockies 'talked' over the music that they were playing in places
we would probably now associate with discos or dance parties. This 'toasting' would be nothing more than a few simple catch phrases
to encourage dancers on the floor to keep on dancing.
The first rap record to achieve success was 'Rapper's Delight' which was released by the Sugar Hill Gang and was actually recorded to cater to whites.
However, it was Run-D.M.C. who brought rap music lyrics into the mainstream. This was then followed by Public Enemy.
At the start, it was noted that only men can perform this musical art, what with the 'harsh words' and roughness
that are distinctive of rap song lyrics. This notion of course, was blown away by the success of Salt 'N' Pepa.
It would really not be wise to say 'and the rest is history' because many believe that rap song lyrics are still in an evolutionary stage.
I guess the best thing to say is "stay tuned my posse!"
